I spent nearly a week in Chicago, visiting three user groups, appearing on a video podcast, and talking to everyone who would listen about Couchbase.
Something happened at the Chicago .NET Developers Downtown user group that I have never seen before. A surprise marriage proposal! Right before I started my presentation! Fortunately, I was in on it, running interference for the groom-to-be. And she said yes! It was a tremendous honor to be involved (even in a small way).

Chicago Geekfest – I Have a NoSQL Toaster
This is a really fun presentation, based heavily on the original presentation by former Couchbaser Matthew Revell with some updates and a .NET twist. The Chicago Geekfest is hosted at GroupOn by Chris Powers. It’s a great group, and when you’re in the Chicago area, you should check it out.
Chicago .NET Developers – Full Stack with .NET
This is the user group with the surprise marriage proposal. I apologize for the sound quality, and there’s a few minutes of missing audio towards the end. Technical difficulties. But there were some great questions from a great audience. If you want to skip the marriage proposal, fast forward to 3:00.
Lake County .NET User Group – SQL for JSON
LCNUG was a smaller group, just a little ways north of Chicago. But I had a lot of fun here, diving into more detail about N1QL than I did in previous days.
Technology and Friends – Couchbase
Finally, I got a chance to sit down with David Giard and record an episode for his video podcast Technology and Friends. David works for Microsoft, but he interviews technologists of all kinds on his show. I give it my highest recommendation, especially this episode:
