As we know cbbackupmgr is the tool which run backend for the backup service so what is the necessity of backup service instead we can go and write some shell script to automate cbbackupmgr. Then we can save some cost in infrastructure and licensing also.
Is there any significant benefit we will get if we deploy the backup as a service in couchbase.
yes @mreiche we know but If our end customer ask if they are ok to use cbbackupmgr and what is the use of backup as additional service and which involves cost.
Please help me what we can reply back to our customer.
If your customers want reliable backups which are tested and supported by Couchbase, and work for hundreds of Couchbase customers - they should use cbbackupmgr and the backup service. Few organizations are willing to forego reliable backups to save a few dollars. It makes for an uncomfortable conversation with the CEO when you need to explain why your backup scripts have not created satisfactory backups to recover from a catastrophe.
Thanks @mreiche for clarification. Is it really necessary backup service to be run on dedicated node or we can configure on the node if other services like data, Index is running. It is mention in CB docs to run on dedicated node w.r.t resource consumption or any other benefits.
Thanks @mreiche. So its not that cbbackupmgr will be deprecated in favour of the backup service sometime in future, atleast that is not the plan at the moment - would it be correct to conclude so? And hence, if one is happy with cbbackupmgr then he need not evaluate and start using the backup service soon.
